Prior to 1 Corinthians 13:1-13, Apostle Paul was talking to us about gifts and how important they are.
He even admonished us to covet the best gifts. 1 Corinthians 12:31a says we should "covet earnestly the best gifts:". This is because they're important.

Our gifts were given to us so as to profit with it. It's important we covet the best gifts too.

But Apostle Paul mentioned something that strike my heart. He said, "...and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way." (1Cor 12:31b) Here, he makes us to understand that there's a more excellent way, something that makes gifts [more] meaningful.

He explained this in our Bible text for tonight
In my voice, I'd say having a gift is important, having gifts is "importanter", showing love with the gifts is "importantest"

Reading through this chapter, I wondered what love means. I was shocked when I saw verse 3,
"And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing." (KJV)
"If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing." (NIV)

Love is about giving and sacrifice. You can't love without giving and sacrifice. And there's more to giving and sacrifice. But some people give without loving. They sacrifice, yet, no love. Many unbelievers give and make sacrifices too. But what's their drive?

Any drive that's out of true love [of God] is vain and will amount to nothing. Unbelievers do not have the [true] love which comes from God. It would be a thing of joy if unbelievers would come to the reality of Christ to be able to maximise their gift of giving, sacrifice, etc.

Jesus' ministry came from compassion (a type of love).
John 3:16 makes me understand that love made God to give His only Son.

God gave. And yes, He didn't just give. He did it through love, the MORE EXCELLENT WAY Apostle Paul was showing us. Now, what is this LOVE?

Simply put, LOVE IS GOD. To walk in love, we must know God. The more we know Him, the more we exhibit love. We're not struggling to love, we have all it takes to love. All we need to do is to walk according to our nature of love.

Our nature is to be patient.
Let's walk in patience

Our nature is to be kind, let's walk in it.

So far God has put in us His Spirit.
We need to walk in His Spirit as instructed.

Permit me to say this;
God is love right?
And God is a Spirit, agreed?
And a tree is known by its fruit. Right?

When the scriptures was telling us that the fruit of the Spirit is love,...
I believe we know that this tells that the fruit of God is love

Ye are gods! Walk in love!

Abba walked in His nature, reason why He came in flesh to redeem us.

Love births joy, peace, long-suffering, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance (see Galatians 5:22-23)

Love is the only law.

To walk in love (fulfilling the only law), grow in the knowledge of God's word, the fellowship with the Holy Ghost.
